WHAT WE DO.....

ANSWERING CALLS

The Communications Center serves as the central hub for processing both emergency and non‑emergency requests for Sioux City and Woodbury County, Iowa, as well as North Sioux City, South Dakota. Because communications play such a critical and specialized role, this work requires personnel who are highly dedicated, self‑motivated, and committed to public service.

DISPATCHING UNITS

The Communications Center plays a critical role in deploying the appropriate resources—police, fire, or medical—whenever an emergency occurs. Real‑time awareness of unit status allows communications operators to manage incidents more efficiently and greatly enhances responder safety. The Center utilizes advanced computer, telephone, teletype, and radio systems, along with GIS mapping and emergency medical protocols. With these tools, operators can guide callers, dispatch law enforcement, fire, rescue, or medical teams to emergency scenes, and coordinate those units throughout the response.

HELPING YOU

The Communications Center is often the first point of contact for citizens seeking assistance, frequently in urgent situations. It is crucial that operators gather accurate information quickly and professionally to ensure the appropriate response.
